Mozilla has announced a new update to Firefox that gives users full control over artificial intelligence features in the browser. With this change, users can disable all AI tools at once using a single switch in the settings. The goal is to make Firefox simpler for people who do not want AI features in their browsing experience.
The update introduces a new section called AI Controls in Firefox settings. Inside this section is one main option called “Block AI enhancements.” When this option is turned on, every AI-powered feature in Firefox is disabled. This includes both current AI tools and any new ones Mozilla may add in the future. Once enabled, the setting stays active even after browser updates.
Why Mozilla Is Giving Users This Option
In recent years, AI features have become common in web browsers. Many browsers now use AI to suggest content, organize tabs, translate pages, and offer chat assistants. While some users find these tools helpful, others feel they are unnecessary or distracting.
Mozilla says this update is about choice. Users who want AI can keep using it. Users who prefer a simple browser can turn everything off with one click. Instead of hiding AI settings in different places, Mozilla has grouped them into one clear section.
What AI Features Will Be Disabled?
When the “Block AI enhancements” switch is turned on, Firefox will stop all generative AI features. These include:
- AI tools that translate web pages
- Automatic image descriptions in PDFs
- AI-based tab grouping and suggestions
- Link previews that summarize content
- AI chatbots available in the browser sidebar
None of these features will run in the background when the switch is enabled.
Many browsers are adding AI features by default and making them hard to turn off. Firefox is taking a different path. Mozilla is allowing users to fully opt out of AI without losing access to normal browser updates or security fixes.
This move reflects Mozilla’s long focus on privacy, transparency, and user control. The company believes users should decide how much AI they want, rather than having it forced on them.
As AI becomes more common in software, Mozilla’s decision may influence how other companies design their products. For now, Firefox users will have a clear and simple way to browse the web without AI, if they choose.
