Crypto exchange shutdowns continue as BitMart announces closure

The number of cryptocurrency exchanges shutting down continues to grow, highlighting the increasing challenges facing centralized trading platforms despite continued growth in digital asset adoption. After BitMEX announced plans to close its exchange last week, BitMart has now confirmed that it will also wind down its trading platform over the coming months.

In an announcement published , BitMart said it had made the difficult decision to begin an orderly wind-down after reviewing its operating conditions, the current market environment, and its long-term business strategy.

The decision will be carried out in phases over the next several months, giving users time to close their positions and withdraw their assets before the platform permanently ceases operations.

According to BitMart, new user registrations, deposits, and new trading orders were suspended from July 26, 2026.

The exchange said all trading services will end on August 26, 2026, marking the end of buying and selling activities on the platform. However, users will still be able to access their accounts and withdraw their assets after trading ends.

BitMart added that the platform will officially cease all operations on January 31, 2027, after which the exchange will no longer be available.

Despite the shutdown, the company assured users that withdrawal services will remain active throughout the wind-down process. It urged customers to close any open positions, complete Know Your Customer (KYC) verification where required, and withdraw their funds as early as possible to avoid last-minute complications.

The company also directed users to review its official announcement for important timelines and operational instructions during the closure process.

While BitMart did not disclose detailed financial reasons behind the decision, it said the move followed a careful assessment of the company’s operating conditions, market conditions, and long-term business plans.

BitMart’s announcement comes less than a week after BitMEX revealed it would also shut down its exchange, adding to a growing list of crypto platforms that have exited the market in recent years. The developments have renewed discussions about the pressures facing centralized exchanges as regulatory expectations rise, operating costs increase, and competition across the industry becomes more intense.

For BitMart users, the immediate priority is securing their assets. The exchange encouraged customers not to wait until the final deadline, warning that completing withdrawals early could help avoid delays as more users begin moving their funds before the platform officially closes.

Although BitMart is ending its exchange operations, the company did not indicate whether it plans to focus on other blockchain-related products or services in the future. For now, its priority is completing an orderly shutdown while ensuring customers have enough time to withdraw their assets before operations officially end in January 2027.
