Circle partners with Chelsea as USDC takes front-of-shirt spot

Circle has partnered with Chelsea FC as the club’s Principal Partner and official front-of-shirt partner for the 2026/27 season, bringing its USDC stablecoin brand to the club’s men’s, women’s and Academy teams.

The partnership, announced on August 28, will see Circle and USDC branding appear on Chelsea shirts, beginning with the men’s team’s first Premier League home match of the season against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

The agreement gives Circle a prominent position across one of the world’s most recognisable football clubs, while Chelsea gains a partner from the digital financial services sector as the club continues to expand its commercial relationships.

Financial terms and the length of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Circle takes USDC to football

Circle is best known as the company behind USDC, a dollar-backed stablecoin designed to allow users and businesses to move dollar-denominated value over blockchain networks.

Through the Chelsea partnership, USDC will be placed in front of the club’s global audience, with the branding appearing across the men’s, women’s and Academy shirts.

Circle says Chelsea has more than 500 million fans worldwide, while its own promotional material describes the partnership as a way to connect USDC with a global sports audience.

The company is using the partnership to present USDC beyond its use in crypto markets and as part of its wider effort to make digital dollars more familiar to mainstream audiences.

Jeremy Allaire, Circle’s co-founder and CEO, said the partnership reflects the company’s view that money should move across borders in a way similar to how information moves across the internet.

Chelsea gains a new front-of-shirt partner

The club began the 2026/27 Premier League season without a permanent front-of-shirt sponsor after its previous agreement with IFS ended with the 2025/26 season. IFS had become Chelsea’s Principal Partner in February and appeared on the front of the men’s shirt for the remainder of that campaign.

Circle now takes over that position. The deal covers more than the men’s first team. Circle and USDC branding will also appear on Chelsea Women and Academy shirts.

Chelsea Women will also play all of their Women’s Super League home matches at Stamford Bridge during the 2026/27 season, giving the partnership additional visibility at the club’s home ground.

Jason Gannon, Chelsea’s president, said the partnership would help introduce Circle to the Chelsea fan base and support the club’s work around digital innovation.

USDC gets a global sports platform

The partnership puts a regulated dollar-backed stablecoin in one of football’s most visible commercial spaces.

USDC is designed to maintain a value of one US dollar and is used for moving dollar-denominated funds across blockchain networks. Circle has also been building payment infrastructure around the stablecoin, including its Circle Payments Network.

For Circle, the Chelsea deal provides a way to introduce the USDC name to people who may know little about stablecoins but recognise Chelsea.

The company says the partnership is based on a shared international audience. Chelsea connects supporters across different countries through football, while USDC is designed to move value across borders.

That positioning is central to Circle’s message around the partnership.Despite USDC appearing on the shirts, the partnership does not mean Chelsea has launched a new USDC payment service for fans.

Neither Chelsea nor Circle announced a system that would allow supporters to buy tickets, merchandise or other club products with USDC as part of the agreement.

Circle’s own announcement also states that the sponsorship does not constitute an invitation to acquire, hold or trade crypto assets or to use a financial service.

For now, the agreement is primarily a commercial partnership and brand collaboration.

Circle joins Chelsea’s growing technology network

Circle is not the only technology-focused company working with Chelsea. The club has existing partnerships with companies including FPT, which provides technology services and has worked with Chelsea on digital capabilities and fan engagement.

Chelsea also continues its relationship with crypto exchange BingX, which remains an Official Principal Partner for the 2026/27 season.

Circle’s agreement therefore adds another digital-finance company to Chelsea’s commercial network, while giving USDC a position that will be visible whenever the club’s teams play.

The Circle branding will make its first appearance on Chelsea’s men’s shirt at Stamford Bridge against Brighton, marking the start of the partnership for the 2026/27 season.
