The Ethereum Foundation announced on its official X account today that the network will “burn the torch” on July 30, 2025, to celebrate Ethereum’s 10th anniversary. As part of the milestone festivities, a commemorative NFT will be released that same day and will be freely available to anyone in the Ethereum community who claims it.
This symbolic “torch burning” is described as a moment of reflection on a decade of decentralised innovation, from pioneering the smart contract era to supporting the rise of DeFi, NFTs, and Layer 2 scaling solutions. The celebratory event also reflects Ethereum’s transition journey, including the historic Merge to proof-of-stake and subsequent advancements, such as EIP-1559 fee burns, which reshaped the network’s economic model.
According to Ethereum’s X post, the commemorative NFT will likely serve as a digital memento to honour early adopters, developers, and contributors who helped shape Ethereum’s open and permissionless ecosystem. By offering the NFT for free, Ethereum’s leadership is reinforcing its ethos of community-first inclusivity and universal access.
“This will be a community celebration of shared milestones and future aspirations,” said a spokesperson from the Ethereum Foundation. “It’s our way of thanking everyone who has built, invested, and believed in this journey over the past ten years.” Though details are still under wraps, the Foundation has teased interactive elements connected to the NFT, potentially hinting at access to virtual events, exclusive content, or DAO governance modules linked to the anniversary celebration.
Impact-wise, this initiative is expected to rally the broad Ethereum ecosystem, from core developers and governance participants to artists and collectors, around a shared sense of history and renewal. Analysts anticipate that the commemorative NFT could become a digital badge of honour, reinforcing Ethereum’s cultural identity and collective memory.
