Moving money between traditional bank accounts and cryptocurrency platforms is still one of the biggest hurdles preventing wider crypto adoption. While buying crypto has become easier over the years, depositing and withdrawing funds from bank accounts often remains slow, fragmented or unavailable in many markets.
MoonPay believes solving that problem is key to bringing more users into the crypto economy. The company has now taken a step in that direction by acquiring Glide, a Y Combinator-backed startup that helps users move money directly from their bank accounts into crypto platforms.
The acquisition, completed as an all-equity deal, brings Glide’s bank payment infrastructure into MoonPay’s growing suite of crypto payment services. Although the companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction, the move expands MoonPay’s ability to support instant crypto deposits directly from users’ bank accounts. It also marks the company’s latest acquisition as it broadens its role beyond a simple crypto on-ramp.
Founded in 2023, Glide built technology that allows users to connect their bank accounts and fund crypto wallets or exchanges without relying on card payments or manual bank transfers. The startup participated in Y Combinator’s accelerator programme and positioned itself as infrastructure for developers building crypto applications.
MoonPay said Glide’s technology will be integrated into its platform, allowing developers and businesses to offer faster and more seamless deposit experiences. The company expects the integration to reduce friction for customers while improving payment reliability and lowering transaction costs.
The acquisition reflects a broader trend across the crypto industry, where infrastructure providers are increasingly focusing on improving the user experience rather than building new blockchains or tokens. As digital assets become more mainstream, companies are investing in payment rails, identity verification, compliance tools and banking integrations that make crypto products easier to use.
For MoonPay, the deal strengthens its ambition to become a full-service financial infrastructure provider for the digital asset economy. The company already supports fiat-to-crypto purchases, NFT payments and stablecoin transactions for wallets, exchanges and Web3 applications around the world.
Glide’s team is expected to join MoonPay following the acquisition, bringing expertise in banking infrastructure and payment connectivity. The integration is expected to accelerate MoonPay’s efforts to simplify how users move money between traditional finance and blockchain-based applications.
The acquisition also highlights continued investor interest in crypto infrastructure startups. Even as funding for speculative crypto projects has slowed, companies building practical tools for payments, compliance and financial connectivity continue to attract strategic buyers looking to expand their capabilities.
With Glide now part of its business, MoonPay is betting that reducing the complexity of moving money into crypto will play a bigger role in driving adoption than introducing new digital assets alone.
