Strategy surpasses 700,000 BTC to become the largest corporate Bitcoin holder

Strategy Breaks Corporate Bitcoin Record, Surpassing 700,000 BTC Holdings

Strategy, the Bitcoin treasury company led by Michael Saylor and formerly known as MicroStrategy, has increased its corporate Bitcoin holdings to 709,000 BTC following a substantial acquisition disclosed in January 2026. This latest purchase of 22,305 bitcoins, valued at roughly $2.13 billion, was announced in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing and marks one of the company’s largest single buys in recent history.

The acquisition lifts Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings to 709,715 BTC, accounting for about 3.37 % of Bitcoin’s maximum 21 million supply and roughly 3.55 % of the circulating coins. The firm funded the purchase through equity offerings under its “at-the-market” program, selling shares and preferred stock to raise capital, continuing its long-standing strategy of using corporate balance sheet capital to accumulate digital assets.

This recent buy comes in the context of an aggressive acquisition trend. In late 2025 and earlier this year, Strategy executed multiple Bitcoin purchases, including significant buys of 13,627 BTC and smaller tranches throughout the year, substantially increasing its reserves. While the purchases underscore institutional conviction in Bitcoin as a treasury asset, they also highlight the scale of capital Strategy is willing to deploy, even during periods of price volatility.

Despite the bullish accumulation, the market reaction has been mixed. Strategy’s share price experienced downward pressure around the announcement, and broader crypto markets have shown volatility amid macroeconomic and regulatory headwinds.

Holding such a significant portion of Bitcoin presents both strategic validation and challenges. On one hand, Strategy’s commitment signals confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term store-of-value narrative. On the other hand, sustaining capital raising and investor confidence becomes more complex as the treasury grows and dilutive pressures increase.

Surpassing 700,000 BTC is a milestone that underscores how digital assets have transitioned from the fringe to the centre stage among certain institutional actors. With Strategy now firmly positioned as the largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder, attention will shift to how this massive reserve influences market dynamics, investor expectations, and broader adoption trends in the coming months.
