Robinhood launches AI agents that can trade for users

Robinhood is giving its customers AI agents that can research markets, build trading strategies and execute trades on their behalf, bringing automated investing directly into its brokerage app.

The new Robinhood Agents feature lets users create AI agents that conduct market research, develop strategies, and automatically place trades based on user instructions. Robinhood says more than 150,000 customers have already opened dedicated agentic trading accounts, with AI agents interacting with its trading tools nearly 30 million times a day.

One of the key additions is Loops, which allows an agent to repeatedly monitor the market and execute a strategy when predefined conditions are met. For example, a user could instruct an agent to check the market at specific intervals and place a trade when a condition is triggered.

Robinhood is placing the agents in dedicated trading accounts rather than giving them access to a customer’s broader Robinhood portfolio. Trade approvals are also enabled by default, meaning the agent must receive the user’s confirmation before placing a trade unless the customer changes the setting.

The company is also adding access to premium financial data and tools through Agent Apps. Robinhood says agents can use data and tools from 11 providers, expanding the information available to them when researching markets and developing strategies.

The AI lineup includes models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Robinhood is offering access to OpenAI’s GPT-6 Luna for free through the end of the year, according to reports on the launch.

The launch marks a significant step beyond AI-powered market research. Instead of simply asking an AI system to explain a stock or identify an opportunity, Robinhood users can now give an agent instructions and allow it to act on those instructions within a dedicated account.

However, Robinhood is also warning users that agentic trading carries significant risks. AI agents can misinterpret instructions, rely on incomplete or outdated information or behave unexpectedly, while users remain responsible for trades executed by their agents.

Robinhood is rolling out the agents alongside other products aimed at active traders, including perpetual futures on selected crypto assets with up to 10X leverage. The company is also preparing to introduce 24/7 trading for selected equities, although that feature is listed as rolling out later.

The move puts AI closer to the point of execution in retail markets, where an agent is no longer only helping an investor decide what to trade but can potentially carry out the strategy itself.
